Old Jack & Penelope

I've got a story to share. got it from an email from a friend (:
thought i should share it. kind of dont like forwarding emails much.

The man slowly looked up. This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat was brand new. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life. His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many others had done before.

"Leave me alone," he growled.

To his amazement, the woman continued standing there. She was smiling, her even white teeth displayed in two dazzling rows.

"Are you hungry?" she asked.

"No," he answered sarcastically. "I've just finished dining with the president.. Now go away."

The woman's smile became even broader.

Suddenly the man felt a gentle hand under his arm.

"What are you doing, lady?" the man asked angrily. "I said to leave me alone."

Just then a policeman came up.

"Is there any problem, ma'am?" he asked.

"No problem here, officer," the woman answered. "I'm just trying to get this man to his feet. Will you help me?"

The officer scratched his head. "That's old Jack. He's been a fixture around here for a couple of years. What do you want with him?"

"See that cafeteria over there?" she asked. "I'm going to get him something to eat and get him out of the cold for a while."

"Are you crazy, lady?" old Jack resisted. "I don't want to go in there!" Then he felt strong hands grab his other arm and lift him up.

"Let me go, officer. I didn't do anything.."

"This is a good deal for you, Jack," the officer answered. "Don't blow it."

Finally, and with some difficulty, the woman and the police officer got old Jack into the cafeteria and sat him at a table in a remote corner. It was the middle of the morning, so most of the breakfast crowd had already left and the lunch crowd had yet arrived.

The manager strode across the cafeteria and stood by the table.

"What's going on here, officer?" he asked."What is all this, is this man in trouble?"

"This lady brought this man in here to be fed," the policeman answered.

"Not in here!" the manager replied angrily. "Having a person like that here is bad for business."

Old Jack smiled a toothless grin. "See, lady. I told you so. Now if you'll let me go. I didn't want to come here in the first place."

The woman turned to the cafeteria manager and smiled.

"Sir, are you familiar with Eddy and Associates, the banking firm down the street?"

"Of course I am," the manager answered impatiently. "They hold their weekly meetings in one of my banquet rooms."

"And do you make a good amount of money providing food at these weekly meetings?"

"What business is that of yours?"

"I, sir, am Penelope Eddy, president and CEO of the company."

"Oh..."

The woman smiled again.. "I thought that might make a difference."

She glanced at the cop who was busy stifling a laugh. "Would you like to join us in a cup of coffee and a meal, officer?"

"No thanks, ma'am," the officer replied. "I'm on duty.."

"Then, perhaps, a cup of coffee to go?"

"Yes, ma'am. That would be very nice."

The cafeteria manager turned on his heel.

"I'll get your coffee for you right away, officer."

The officer watched him walk away.
"You certainly put him in his place," he said.

"That was not my intention. Believe it or not, I have a reason for all this."

She sat down at the table across amazed old Jack. She stared at him intently.

"Jack, do you remember me?"

Old Jack searched her face with his old, rheumy eyes. "I think so- I mean, you do look so familiar."

"I'm a little older perhaps," she said. "Maybe I've even filled out more than in my younger days when you worked here, and I came through that very door, cold and hungry."

"Ma'am?" the officer said questioningly. He couldn't believe that such a magnificent looking woman could ever have been hungry.

"I was just out of college," the woman began. "I had come to the city looking for a job, but I couldn't find anything. Finally I was down to my last few cents and had been kicked out of my apartment. I walked the streets for days. It was February and I was cold and nearly starving. I saw this place and walked in, hoping that I could get something to eat."

Jack's face lit up with a smile. "Now I remember," he said.. "I was behind the serving counter. You came up and asked me if you could work for something to eat. I said that it was against company policy."

"I know," the woman continued. "Then you made me the biggest roast beef sandwich that I had ever seen, gave me a cup of coffee, and told me to go over to this very corner table and enjoy it. I was afraid that you would get into trouble. Then, when I looked over and saw you putting money out of your own pockets into the cash register, I knew then, that everything would be all right."

"So you started your own business?" Old Jack said.

"I got a job that very afternoon. I worked my way up. Eventually I started my own business that, with the help of God, prospered..."

She opened her purse and pulled out a business card. "When you are finished here, I want you to pay a visit to a Mr. Lyons. He's the personnel director of my company. I'll go talk to him now and I'm certain he'll find something for you to do around the office."

She smiled. "I think he might even find the funds to give you a little advance so that you can buy some clothes and get a place to live until you get on your feet. If you ever need anything, my door is always open to you."

There were tears in the old man's eyes. "How can I ever thank you?" he asked.

"Don't thank me," the woman answered. "To God goes the glory. He led me to you."

Outside the cafeteria, the officer and the woman paused at the entrance before going their separate ways.

"Thank you for all your help, officer," she said.

"On the contrary, Ms. Eddy," he answered. Thank you. I saw a miracle today, something that I will never forget. And...And thank you for the coffee."

When God leads you to the edge of the cliff, trust Him fully and let go.
Only one of two things will happen, either He'll catch you when you fall, or He'll teach you how to fly.

God is so big He can cover the whole world with his Love, and yet so small He can curl up inside your heart.

God closes doors no man can open & God opens doors no man can close.

Went to IMM for lunch-dinner with Steve. was craving for pastamania while working the previous night, and zhixian told me that there is a new outlet at IMM, closest to my house, so i decided to go there. to find that there is no pastamania!!! sad or what. was just mad craving for Chicken cheese salsicca. but ): sad.
so we settled for Cafe cartel. food was alright, serving was huge. only finished half-ish. still got a craving for pastamania. ):.
irritating. anyway.

and! i just did my nailz. blue and needed t do something to cheer meself up. so im orange!

dont dare to take a close up pict cuz it looks kind of off now. must see tmr. it'll look better.

i also chopped off half my bangs!

was with aly few nights back.. watched UP at JP. good show. catch it! i'm gonna watch it again with steve.

There goes my hero.

Back from Malaysia again (:

Went to the farmhouse again, this time we brought my aunt along. goat's still looking the same, the whole place looks the same, except that fruits were in season. so there's spots of red here and there... rambutans! :D lovelove. i think this trip wasnt as stinky, but fuck, why so many insects?

Kid says hi (:

we found a centipede in the room that the owner had generously opend up to us for free as we had 8 people and booked one room only. then we found a hideous black super large lizard in the former room. my dad and i tried catching it to no avail..it disappeared after 5 minutes of us moving cupboards and all. we went to the waterfall in the noon, and all except mom, aunt and chris jumped into the water.. shiok.

We went to buy a hamster too! The name's poink poink.

But it started with an alright scene.

Moooooooooooooooooooooovie.

NAIGHT AT DER MUSEUM.

It was good! i was expecting myself to fall asleep cuz i had school from 8-5, and work from 6-10. (yes, whole day in the same clothes- except for work. was all sticky and gross, thank you very much.) was also wearing my contacts the whole time, another smack to the forehead to how bady the day had started. i forgot my calculator(smack), my glasses, my notebook. booooo. so i caught this movie half an hour after midnight with the bone. he came over to jurong east to pick me up and we bussed to esplanade and walked to ps. then we walked up 7 escalators. got the tix, the drinks and pops, and off we go. FRONT ROW'S A NECKACHE. but we had th row to ourselves and we stretched out like... nua k. but i couldnt find my comfy position so ): kept shifting around. finished the movie at 2.30-ish, walked to St Andrew's and grabbed a NR5. doozed on the bus.... bus driver was the cool. spinned corners like there's no tomorrow. couldnt really sleep. heh heh. but i prefer this to the morning/afternoon slow pokey drivers. with all the long bus rides, i guess i we spoke quite a lot. we did the LP on the top deck of 97, the PCD, and the works. and we watched TV. HAH.

i got home just before 5am. tired sia. woke up at six pm just now. HEHE.

EH THE MOVIE WAS REALLY GOOD LEH.

Love the new characters and the old too. Bobbing Einsteins, Spacemonkey Able, giant octopus, Napoleon, George Washington, like wow, and the Egyptian prince's big brother keen on overtaking the world.

But there were loop-holes la. dont wna say. dont spoil the movie for you any further.

School was fun, work was fun, movie was great, BYE.

Two heart beating together.

OI.

What a weekend.

Sheesha at Arab street with schoolmates last friday, pictures on my FB if you wna seeeeeeeeeeee. played truth or dare, so crazy. but frankly quite mild la. wasnt so siao cuz i dont think we were that high. hehe. amazing. after sheesha, we went somewhere else to lepak cuz we were fucking hot at aladdin. so we walked....to city hall. where to exactly, i cant remember. i remember zara. mcflurry. bitching about exboyfriends. HOHO. yuanxing, beeying and me were the only girls, and only chinese. there WAS Kirk too, but he left early (Awwwwwwwwwwwww yuanxingggggggg.)

ANYWAY. funfunfun.

Got home at around midnight i think? then i did laundry. packed the house. the room. did my nails. and slept at 4 AM. SIAO RIGHT. shagged.

Next morning, woke up, prepare for Malaysia and all. and off we go, into the cab. haha. lazy to train/bus and all. went to Queen's (huang hou. IDK WAZZAT IN ENGLISH. my own trslatn!) and got clothes for Xxuan while momma aunt and sissy get mani and pedis. NO FAIR ): BUT my nails are nice too! just dont bring it too close to your face k. :D

Then the dinner at night... was great. relative meetup like that. everyone looking good, chit chat gossip. after the dinner a few of us cousins went for K SESSION. and NEWAY rocks. the manager, Thomas, is my aunt's godson. sooooooo. we got the big room. and vip treatment. and more drinks. Kempai rocks. Thomas so nice. yay. he got us some fruit beer and we were hooked. then he kept asking me to drink. HAHA. he say one person drink very lonely. *chink glass* drink together la. fun. he a/c us for a while, then left for two hours or so, and then came back at 3am. i think. i did several linkin park songs with jeremiah. WALAU. CRAWLING IN MY SKIN SIA. HHAHAAAAA. then we belted Rihanna, no doubt, all those lor. chinese songs a bit hard for me. a lot of mumbling on my part :B

school ended at one today. slacked/nua-ed/did math until 2 oddish. rained the whole day. today i understood ELTECH! (: must sit in front more often.

realized that i've left many assignments undone ): autoCAD, MOL, tutorials, handouts. see already also sian. sigh.

saw zichuan bringing around 2 HG girls earlier!

so i got home.. then checked thru hw, decided on one to do, and promptly fell asleep ._.

am i good or what. gerald said im a pig. BOO. and NO, i did not put my head anywhere near the laptop so it wasnt hot, i shirted down. AND i was on the bed. weather's perfect for a sleep-in.

so i just woke up half an hour ago :}

felt HELL LOT better than 2 hours ago, when my stomach was hurting so badly i cant even stand properly. felt like vomeeeeting too, despite the fact that i had not had a sit-down meal today. ate haribo, drank soya bean, you know. snaaaaaack.

tired lei. feel so piggish.

one day im gonna steal of of school's table and bring it home.

Sleeping's such bliss :}

Woke up at 2 today, fucking shiok to sleep for long hours.. but i did wake up in the morning, my body clock working. or was it the alarm? i think i forgot to turn off the alarm. heh. but fell promptly back to sleep after that la. havent slept like that since TWO weeks ago. Ultimate TGIF. or, Thank God it's LD. Same difference since they fall on a friday :D

Momma's birthday's coming! two weeks to go (: i love my mom.

Assignments.. Nas said there's not much, but i keep thinking there's things i've forgotten. hate that nagging voice in the back of my head. i've been wasting today on youtube, msn, wiki, whatnot. wasted a day.

Work yesterday.. was quite siao. went to supper with my KE LICK afterwards :D yes ah. kelick is colleague, dunno why they must make it sound so weird. KE LICK AH! Isaac and Weihao keep bombing me with questions (both having just undergone the process of a breakup...so ya). I wont actually mind them asking questions, but they dont even give me a chance to answer them. they're just irritating me lah. mei you ban fa. so annoying. one on the left one on the right. Isaac say nx time bring more friends, then one infront, one behind, so that i'll have no way of escaping their persistant annoying questions.

Loeiloei have been caught digging away at my bag under the bed a few times already. dunno what she digging also. so noisy it woke me up. siaokia.

Wolves.

I stole a photo from Nas' blog :D

Nas, Hafiz (background, black tee boy) and me. my kool klassmatez. we always break together.. makan or slack one corner together. and Nas always carry my laptop. Yay. laptop's super duper uber fuper lupin' HEAVY. and i mean heavy. my arm'd ache after carrying for like. 5 minutes. then change arm. then both ache. shiok much? so that's why Mister naso comes in handy :D hehe. he stole my smilies .__. i forgot to kill him. hahaha.

So far school's been.. really fun. everyday is something new, which is great. i'm looking forward to school, and im not as annoyed as i thought i'd be, to be waking up bright in the morning again. despite the super dry eyes. and the tendency to fall asleep on the bus ride home. if i take bus.

oh! and Jonathan's staying nearby!!! We might go to school tgt : D if we can manage to make plans. Ohhh. cannot dont mention the breaks. how i dread them during the first few days, and how i cherish them now! lecturers always release us earlier! so shiok. slack here, makan there. chitchat. listen to the boys talk about girls. try to comprehend malay language.

i've been trying the ban miens. and tomyams. walau. cannot find really good ones lei. how sia. how to beat WM's? had some barely cooked noodles and weak tomyam soup for lunch. boo.

Tomorrow im working at six.

i get off at six from school.

heng lecturer said that he normally end early (: HENG. or i dai.

I've been watching videos from disneykid1 and communitychannel. similar styles.. only today had i come to enjoy disneykid1's way and manners. heh. he's really just a boy. who's extremely sensetive. yeaa.

My momma asked me to check out the big sweep results earlier on, and nada, didnt get no cash. she just popped in to ask me about the results, i was like 'don't have la.' then a big grin.. she ask me go eat shit. MY MOMMA. eat shit. my momma. we also went to the pasar malam, she brought me food to fatten me up for christmas, and suddenly she said 'you know what day is it today?' i was like 'mom, good friday.? i know.' then she went on 'yeah, Jesus died today years back, and here we are.. eating such rich food' wao, and i stopped eating k. i didnt think about it ): sorry Jesus. I'm so full of shit right.

I'm such an idiot.

I'm gg for blood donation with my sisters tomorrow, most prolly not gg for Qam's gig, also cuz he called and said the location's pretty f-ed up, small and.. not safe. i think. that's the gist of it la. so i'll attend his next upcoming gig i guess.

Tomorrow is Kelly's baptism-cum-first-communion-cum-confirmation! isn't it cool. three in one. it's gonna last three hours, coincidently.

I found my missing-for-two-weeks cardigan.

I need a new notebook. and pencilbox.

and clothes! shorts.. tee-shirts. oh gun. and bag. really serious. i think right. i need a lot of money first. shoppging. yes.

Taking me over.

Back from Farmstay. didum. had mozzie bites on me thigh. everywhere. rain on both days. managed to see the goats, baby and all. pictures!

i was saying 'Jerry, smile!' and he did this smile with his hands. bleh. camshy.

detoured, went to the wet market. there's a pet shop there. if you can spot a hamster there.. right smack in the middle...and a little to the top. (sleeping, so you cant see eyes, in case you were searching.) and right. they sell scorpions and tarantulas. and fighting fishes, cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs (hey, Ah Pui brand!), and mealworms. Yeaaah.

three rooms, we took one. and sixteen (12?) people slept in one room. cool or what. ti-lam FTW. i think we left it quite in order (: hehe.

by the barbeque pit and a cooking gas stove.

big old old old meanass goat. head's been stuck for who knows how long. it's always there.. as far as i've seen it.

Babe goat. two weeks old only! adorable only until it baaaas in your face. IN YOUR FACE.

unripe lychees. cool hor. got durian trees too. apparently in a few months' time they'll all be good to eat! awesome.

cool old things we didnt even sit in. just snapped a picture and we went elsewhere.

mosquito coils that saved our lives k. one in the outdoors, one in the kitchen.. one at the barbeque's.. yeah.

conquering jerry at a game of wuguehpai. FTW. it's not dai di! i'd not teach him dai di lor. (anws if it's dai di die lo. cards suck cardboards.)

Sooo.. a couple of firsts experiences.

First time:

sitting on the steps, watching the rain gradually stop.
chasing turkeys around the field. three turkeys.
watching a spider wrap some ants for supper/ next day's breakfast
watching ants march into the house and steal our food.. shitload of ants.
seeing turkeys fly up into a tree.
listening to malay ghost stories as though there's so normal.. and everywhere.
breaking a spider's web and feeling very sorry about it
watching a spider rebuild its web
witnessing the collection of goats' milk

Yeah. it was a fun trip, no doubt. but a second trip there? hmmm. the stench of goats is really bad. real funky. cant believe aunt actually is contemplating her wedding ceremony there. 'Aiya, smelly also smelly one time mah... once in a lifetime lei... special mah...' all that. what the fuck. sure you want the ceremony remembered as the 'Smelly Goat Place'?

I think not. heh. :}.

i've finally decided to play with C902'camera. it's not too bad! wa zai, cannot compare to canon/nikon/whatsoever. but as a camera phone :] the girl's well satisfied. except for the zoom. kanasai.

Tulips from my sissy's birthday 3 days ago- petals are falling off at the slightest touch. taken at 4 am. cuz i was bored and bored. pretty innit?!

coin purse that i dont use. lovely shade of pink. brought it to school ONCE. and only once. playing with the macro feature. pretty cool.

couldnt help myself. my lovely watch from one birthday ago. havent worn it in ages ( since i stopped school, pretty much), and am currently taking every chance i have to wear it. heh. until i forget, that is.

Yes ah. they are getting along so well! sleeping side by side for warmth.. taking turns to eat (food bowl ain't big enough for a candle lit dinner for two) and all. Freddy kept a brave front when i when to put more food into the bowl. he sat very. very. very still- something that porkchop didnt do until recently- but alas. i accidentally knocked onto the metal cage and a loud ping! sent Brave ole Freddy into the dark refuge, side along side with porkchop.

Woke up early today- trying to adjust to morning life. so i'm sleeping very little, but who gives a shit. went to do grocery shopping, realize that sometimes not every goes according to plan. bummer, no bittergroud tonight. bummer. bummer.

Sibei sian. haha. not enough sleep. very annoying, the way my hands are trembling. kabei she me, hands no need sleep what. jiao wei.

gun. hanging out with chinese swearing folks is doing me good! But i still catch no balls when two people, highly fluent in hokkien, are conversing. i'll be like.. ay, ta jiang she me? then ni jiang she me? after a while i'll heck care, they can be talking about coffee in china for all i know.

Oh ya. checked my enrolment status. successful. doesnt give me the feeling of euphoria as anyone would... wont they? Hmmm.

Kept checking out the window. oh yeah, i'm situated by the window again today. bored.

Just finished watching august rush- for the second time. gonna watch something else soon.. but im pretty tired. glad that i'm not working today... later on. i've been using my mom's phone recently, for the past two days in fact. motorazr v9. mahogany. the color. is the cool.

im wondering if i should get one of my own. it's damn unfair for my mom, if im using her cool mobile. Yeah. gimme some idea, people. yes, i'd love to own another slim flip phone, after aeons of the slide w910i phone. i love slamming my phones. yo.

the muse.

Have been listening to august rush ost, oh mai cha siew bao. jonathan rhys is damn hot kay. he's the sex lor. boom deyada.

i.ve been listening to very laid back songs :] cool cucumber, yes ah.

brought hazel/ brown contact lenses! oh mai koosh. i'm so kool hor. ._. but i'm not used to this.. brown eyes look. heh. i used to say i'd never get colored contact lenses, look what happened. hehheh.

totto-chan is a very very nice novel.

and i look very fair. light effects only, dont even dream that i've turn flawless overnight .__. though it'd be a good kind of change. hmmmm. my jiujiu said that i looked like a cat. meow.

i've brought a wonderful earpiece! so happy ^-^ thankyou stevie boy, for accompanying me to Challenger @ IMM. i'd say i love you, but that would be lying. :D
